As part of the ResMed AirFit Series, the AirFit F20 is an ultra-comfortable and highly therapy compliant mask. When comparing airfit F20 vs F10 we can say the shape of both masks is quite similar. AirFit F20 offers an open field of view, which makes it easy for patients to read or watch TV comfortably without having to adjust the mask or the frame. ResMed also added extra padding to the F20 face mask frame and headgear in order to improve comfort. The mask is also equipped with innovative technology InfinitySeal full face cushioning. The cushion begins at the nasal bridge and adjusts below the mouth. This helps ensuring comfortable CPAP therapy both to the mouth and the nose.
- Open field of vision
- Full face cushion for better therapy acceptance
- Headgear + magnetic clips
- Quick release elbow for added convenience
- Air diffuser
- Several sizes of headgear you can choose from
As you can note by comparing resmed F20 vs F10 many features are similar but the F20 is much more innovative, comfortable and therapy compliant mask. Even patients who need to use CPAP therapy for the first time will become quickly compliant with new therapy thanks to this comfortable mask.
Maximum visibility design
The design of the Airfit F20 allows for the mask to cover up both the mouth and the nose without the need of adding a forehead support. The frame of the mask basically sits low beneath the eyes while at the same time arises above the ears, something similar to a “winged” comfort design. The head of the patient is covered by a minimalistic amount of fabric because the mask frame connects with the headgear at the ears.
Thanks to this innovative and special design, both the mask and the headgear part sit in place without additional accessories such as a plastic frame of the support part. This open range of visibility is very much enjoyed by patients who struggle with claustrophobia or those who like to have an open field of vision during therapy for watching TV reading, writing, etc. In order to find the perfect fit for yourself, you should carefully analyze the AirFit F20 sizing guide offered by the manufacturer.
Several sizes of headgear available
In order to help provide each patient with a personalized fit and comfort, ResMed releases onto the market three different headgear sizes compatible with the AirFit F20 mask. Please keep in mind that when you purchase the mask, only the Standard size headgear is included. If you need a different size, you need to purchase the respective headgear size separately. The three available headgear sizes are as follows: the Standard included in the purchase kit, Small and Large sizes available separately.
Innovative cushion technology
InfinitySeal by ResMed is a special cushion technology that brings more comfort and stability thanks to its variable thickness

Best features of the AirFit F20 full face mask by ResMed
The first and most important feature is visual freedom. The mask allows patients to see everything in front of them, thanks to the low sitting frame. This ensures minimal facial contact, no more red marks and irritations and maximum stability at the same time. The headgear is not a rigid part of the mask anymore, but a flexible and soft component that adds to the stability and comfort during therapy. The headgear is also fitted with plush straps which further add to the comfort feeling during CPAP therapy.
The ResMed AirFit F20 cushion is an innovative and highly comfortable part of the mask. Covering both the nose and the mouth, the cushion ensures stability and comfort during therapy. Thanks to the magnetic clips, taking the mask off or putting it on is done in a matter of seconds. With fast fitting times, it is further ensured that patients become quicker compliant with necessary therapy. Also the quick release elbow means patients can take off the mask with a click during the night. Greater freedom of movement is further ensured by the 360 degrees rotating elbow.
It is important to mention that the ResMed AirFit F20 Full Face mask is compatible with any BiPAP/ CPAP machine. You can easily connect the mask to any type of tubing, and you do not need any adaptors.
AirFit F20 for Her
ResMed also offers the special AirFit F20 full face mask for Her. The mask is designed with all the comfort and stability features of the F20 line of masks. However, this mask features technology that suits the finer facial structures of a woman. InfinitySeal, adaptive wings, contoured chin region, soft nasal bridge, and polished silicone finish are only a few of the outstanding features of the F20 for Her mask.
This range of masks is dedicated specifically to women, in order to offer them a more personalized fit mask that is capable of adapting to the unique facial features of women.

At night when using my F20 mask, I will hear a loud slap sound. Sometimes the slap is a double slap. I have tried different headgear settings but I still get it and at times in the middle of the night I can get several slapping incidents. Any idea?

Charles, I know ResMed says to wear it loose but what is forgotten is that everyones face is structured just a little bit different and sometimes loose just does not get it.
Right now I am using an AirFit F20. It was working great until…You see, ResMed has made a change in the cushion design. I just happen to have a medium cushion witht the silicone that is (shall I say) smooth all around. I also have a cushion that right at the top of where ones nose goes you can see a channel(obviously a mold change). The difference makes air blow into ones eyes when trying to sleep on ones side.
Now I do not know which cushion is suppose to be the right one but living in the small town that I do and not having access to a large center that carries a lot of “current” cushions I am stuck with getting what I can.
Like I said earlier, not everyones face is the same and you cannot make a blanket statement that the f20 is the “finest mask” as different parts of the mask may not fit everyone. Yes the quality of the mask is great I cannot deny that but as to fit that is definitely a different subject.
By the way I tried the f30 and it was not for me although the design is great as well as the quality.

I attribute this sound to mask leak. I get them all the time and it is very annoying because it wakes me up (so much for a restful nights sleep). My assessment is that during the night your body move (whether you know it or not). When your head moves that moves the headgear which moves the mask/cushion causing the mask to leak.

Sounds to me that you have been fitted incorrectly. I would bet that you need a smaller size mask.

Changed from using nose pillows for 10+ years to the f20. Initially, during the ramp time of the cpap it’s great. But as soon as the air pressure reaches 13+ some leaks are popping up under my eye and cheeks, which in turn causes some itching which I HAVE to take care off right there and then so I have to remove my headgear. By then my wife is awake and the mask is declared a failure, eventhough I would like it to work. If it just would hold up during ramp time.

I would speak to your physician as we have never had a CPAP user with this issue.

I have been struggling to get used to my first CPAP, which is an Airfit 10. I have had no trouble with the fit; it is comfortable. However, I often experience air leaking though my ear. Any suggestions?
Charles Goldberg
If the chart says you were a medium then that is what I would have to assume you need. The F10 and the F20 are different mask and have a different cushion however the fit is similar. That being said on the F20 once you have a mask you can change the cushion size to any cushion. In other words, a large cushion will fit on a mask with a medium cushion and vice versa. Try buying it with a large if you think that will fit better and you can always come back and just purchase the medium cushion if need be.

I feel for you when I read your story. I have several comments:
1. I wold bet that the sleep center has measured you incorrectly and you are not wearing the correct size mask.
2. If the mask is leaving marks on your face and you are using a ResMed mask, which you are, then you have the mask to tight. A mask should fit snug nut not tight and when the machine is turned on it should adhere to the face.
3. I do think the AirFit F20 is a much better mask than the AirFir F10 you originally had. You might wan to look into the new ResMed full face mask that was released last week. It is the AirFit F30. Very low profile and very comfortable.

I wish I could agree with some of the positive comments on here but I feel you need to try one to see if it works for you as we are all different and this mask doesn’t make things better for everyone.
I am female, 67 and have a small face and normally sleep on my side or tummy. I was given the F10 by the sleep centre but even after getting used to sleeping while wearing a mask, mine would leak badly as soon as my face fully relaxed, and that would wake me up again giving me a crap nights sleep. Each morning I woke with a dry mouth, sinus headaches, cold sores and red marks on my face which took hours to subside, plus I cough more and now need salbutamol much more than I have ever done in the past.
Liners were suggested to reduce the welts so I bought a pack but they did not work as they simply increased the leakage once I went to sleep and my face relaxed. So, on the next visit to the sleep centre, they gave me a humidifier and the F20 mask to try. The humidifier has helped with some of the problems but not all.
As far as the mask is concerned I really like the quick snap magnetic connections it has on the lower part of the halter. Plus, when I sleep on my side, it is perhaps a little better as far as the leaks are concerned, but my chin still relaxes when I go to sleep so it still leaks and the single skirt on the F20 is much harder than the double one on the F10 so the F20 produces much deeper welts on my skin leaving my face stinging for the rest of that day which is not funny. Plus I am now waking up 7-8 times a night which never happened before I started using the CPAP equipment so sadly the new mask hasn’t even helped to resolve my issues.

Any CPAP Mask can be used on ANY CPAP Machine. It does not matter if you have a ResMed Mask and using a Respironincs machine or any machine.
