Maintaining your CPAP equipment clean and sanitized at all times is of primordial importance. Keep in mind that you are using your mask to breathe air into your lungs, and if your mask/tubing is not properly sanitized you might ingest viruses, bacteria, and mold with every breath you take. Tubing systems are also humid environments and especially if you use a humidifier you are at higher risk of breathing in undesired pathogens if your equipment is not sanitized.
You can use a mild detergent and lukewarm water to thoroughly cleanse your CPAP equipment at regular intervals, but you can opt for a much easier solution. There are many CPAP cleaning and sanitation machines available that will make your life so much easier. Typically, you only need to disassemble your CPAP parts- tubing, mask, headgear, etc.- and insert these into the cleaner unit. Then, press a button and wait for the sanitation process to start. When done, you just need to take out the equipment, assemble it and enjoy a clean and sanitized oxygen therapy each time. Two such highly popular cleaners include the Sleep 8 and the SoClean 2. Let’s check out the main properties and benefits of each cleaning unit.

You should replace the bag every 3 to 4 months. The bags cost $15.95. Remember on the SoClean 2 you have to replace the filter about every 4 to 5 months at a price of $30.00 Therefore, both are about the same cost to maintain.
Lynn Kanetsky
How often do you need to replace the bag that comes with the Sleep 8 and what is the approximate cost of the bags. In the long run, wouldn’t the SoClean2 be more cost efficient if you don’t need to purchase additional bags?
Debbie Grabski
How often do you need to replace the Sleep8 bag?
Charles Goldberg
Approximately every 3 to 4 months depending on how frequent you clean your supplies.
Leonard Helfand
Sleep8 is simpler to use without having to replace the water chamber and push several buttons to setup and run the timer.
Tim K
What do you mean “replace the water chamber”? I would think it would be the opposite, no? With the SoClean you do not have to take out and put back the water chamber, whereas with the sleep 8 you have to, right?
Charles Goldberg
I just called Sleep8 to get the answer to this question as I have been asked it so many times. I was told that it is an off label process, meaning it has not been tested for that with the FDA however from there testing it 100% will kill the virus on a medical mask or even a cell phone.

I have been putting my paper mask to clean into my Sleep 8 bag with my C-PAP mask and tube. I believe I am sterilizing my paper mask. Am I ??? And do we know it is killing the Corona Virus ??
Charles Goldberg
With the Sleep8 you insert into the bag the mask, hose and water chamber then run the cycle. With the SoClean the CPAP is connected directly to the SoClean and you only insert the mask and hose into the machine.
Charles Goldberg
Sleep8 takes room oxygen and converts it to activated oxygen (ozone). The Sleep8 will operated once charged for approximately 5 cycles and then will need to be recharged.
Penny Renfro
For the SoClean2 and the Sleep8, do you only insert the mask, headgear, hose and water chamber into both of these machines or am I missing something?
Albert Huey You Jr
How is Ozone generated in the Sleep 8? Is there a chemical reaction or electrical reaction creatiing the ozone? How long will the Sleep 8 operate before replacement is required?
